I have the equipment (I think), so how do I make my wireless internet work?

I’m technologically challenged, so please bare with me.
I have a broadband connection, which runs through a "SURFboard" SB3100 Cable Modem to a Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router. From the router, an ethernet cable is connected to my computer, which uses Freespire, and has a wireless card in it.
This setup has my internet working on my computer; however, when I try to connect to the should-be wireless network using my iPod Touch, it can’t even detect the network a foot away from the computer. Yet, it can detect my neighbors’ networks. So, it would appear that the problem is with my internet going from wired to wireless.

You may have failed to enable (turn on) wireless capability on your router. Access the configuration page of the wireless router and "Enable" wireless connections. If you want to secure your wireless connection you do that on these pages as well. You should be able to connect to the router from the computer by typing 192.168.0.1 (or possibly 192.168.1.1) in your Internet browser. If it prompts you for a username and password the default should be "Admin" for the user name and nothing (blanks) for the password. This is all if the defaults have not been changed.

You did the step but not all of it.

Every wireless router including Linksys have a WEP or WPA which is a keycode. Look on the router that have the code and use it on the wireless adapter.

If you having trouble finding it, the owner manual may tell you where it is.

When double clicking on the wireless network icon near time in Service Pack 2 it would be easier for you to enter it in. Otherwise, you simply right click on the wireless network icon near the time and Connect to your wireless router this time using the WEP.

you may need to go into the router’s "setup" and enable the wireless first.
To enter the router’s setup you’d enter it’s IP address into the address bar of a web browser (i.e. – for my modem/router it’s 192.168.0.1 )

there’s should documentation for your router at the manufacturer’s website. it might help to take a look at it.
