Landline Vs Mobile Internet
A comparison between internet services from my location. I decided that because I have a lot of calls included in my mobile phone package, why should I pay for a landline? So I have used my (now defunct) landline connection and compared it to a mobile internet dongle. Now, in some ways, I have cheated because this dongle is a clever one.It has bits inside that make it work better. Its capabilities will improve as the mobile internet provider (3 UK) expands its roll out of HSPA+. These results are while connected to HSDPA, the current standard. Using these results (and a few retests) I have now fully ditched my landline, saving me the line rental (and in these days of tight purse strings etc…). You will notice that the results form my landline provider are recorded using Linux and the Mobile using Windows. The difference in video quality is down to the software used. In this case Desktop Recorder on Ubuntu(Linux) and Camstudio on Windows. Addendum 27NOV11 I have used this dongle now for a few months and while the infrastructure was being upgraded, my connection and speeds were dire. But I am happy to report that I am now getting 9Mbps download speed with a 57 ms ping. Plus an upload speed of 2Mbps! Very happy bunny. speedtest.net
